Business description

Autocue was the world’s leading provider of teleprompter systems for media companies and conferences. Having been originally founded by the BBC in the 1950s, Autocue had suffered from increased competition and underinvestment while under prior private equity ownership.

When Root Capital acquired Autocue, revenues were declining year-on-year. We needed to reduce costs and strengthen the management team in order to put the organisation onto stable footing. Our next job was to invest in product development and expand the sales and marketing team.

Over several years, we managed to reverse the decline and start to grow both revenues and profits once again, bringing Autocue further into the digital age.

Exit outcome

We sold Autocue to Vitec Group for an undisclosed sum, giving Root Capital a significant return on initial investment.
